GuilfordWorks, Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC), and Guilford County Schools (GCS) have teamed up to help parents and guardians of Guilford County School students start a career in an emerging industry; no experience is required! Through this partnership, parents and guardians of students in Guilford County Schools can apply for live Instructor-led training that includes everything you need to get one of two unique certifications and land your first job in an in-demand industry, even if you have no prior experience in the field.

What is the training schedule?
The Battery Assembly Technician is 4 weeks
The Intro to Craft Skills is 115 Hours
What is a Career Advisor?
Participants are assigned a Career Advisor to assist with services based on their needs and goals. Services may include career exploration, assessments, job search preparation & assistance, job referrals, career counseling, budgeting, and supportive services.
Who is eligible?
The Dual Generation Workforce Initiative serves individuals who are
- A Guilford County resident
- 18+ years old
- A parent or guardian of a Guilford County Schools student or,
- A High School Graduate or have an HSE/ GED
- Interested in STEM, Advanced Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Biotechnology, or Skilled Trades careers
Is eligibility for the program based on income?
Not necessarily; eligibility is based on your unique situation. Are you entering the workforce for the first time? Are you a military spouse who has recently relocated? Have you been subjected to the legal system? Each of these barriers to employment, and many others, may make you eligible for the program.
Who decides which applicants are served?
Applicants must first meet eligibility and suitability criteria. Because the program is designed for employment outcomes, we want to assist only individuals serious about their career goals. The process of determining who is enrolled in the program is a committee decision, and the decision is based upon input from the Career Advisor, Program Management, and, at times, representatives from partner agencies that may also be serving the individual.
Will I receive a certification from the training?
With the Intro to Craft Skills, students can earn the NCCER’s (National Center for Construction Education & Research) Industry Recognized Core Credential during class.
What kinds of jobs will I qualify for with this certification?
Some examples of roles individuals can attain include Battery Technician, Manufacturing Technician, Battery and Solar PV Electrical Technician, Battery Assembler, General Laborer, Entry-Level Construction Worker, and Construction Materials Handler.
I don’t have a computer at home. Will I be able to complete the course?
You do not need a computer; your classes are conducted in a classroom or lab. If computer access is necessary for training, contact your assigned Career Advisor for resource assistance.
I don’t have internet access at home. Will I be able to complete the course?
The course is in-person, so this is not a requirement. Access to the Internet at home or in another setting, such as the public library, will assist you in accessing course materials to practice outside the classroom.
Are there any books or materials that I need to buy or provide?
No, all resources are provided.
Is there homework?
There are beneficial opportunities to continue practicing and learning outside the classroom, including reading, homework, practice questions, discussions, or review assignments.
I do not have a high school diploma or GED; can I take the course?
A high school diploma or GED is not required to qualify for the courses. However, Guilford Technical Community College offers GED and Adult High School courses if you need support to attain one.
I already have a bachelor’s degree, but I’m interested in changing careers. Can I take the course?
Career changers are welcome. Additional services may be available for your consideration.
Are these courses available in other languages?
