Customized Training for the Next Generation

Business Success Stories

What good is employee training if it isn’t applicable to your specific needs? Your business needs employees who understand the fine points of your company, its products, and your customer’s demands. Generic instruction cannot provide that.

In this video, Cassondra Winner, HR & GHS Manager discusses the need for developing an emerging workforce. She explains how the ability for a business to customize its training is what makes the GuilfordWorks Incumbent Worker Training program so appealing.

GuilfordWorks offers both on-the-job and small business training grants. On-the-job training (OJT) can save employers time and money while helping individuals gain employment. Small businesses can take advantage of Incumbent Worker Training and develop their own courses. Both programs allow businesses to train staff in a way that fits their specific needs.

That’s one of the great things about this entire system is that you can tailor it to what you are looking for, whether it be skills soft or technical, or if it’s something like leadership roles that you’re trying to develop some people into becoming, you know, your next managers or you know, vice presidents.

TRANSCRIPT:

Cassondra: An unskilled labor force is the most common thing. We have a huge skill gap. We have people leaving the workforce, retiring with all these skills, all this knowledge, and we don’t have anyone to replace them. So, one of the biggest things for us is finding this young talent that we can develop into basically replacements for those that are leaving currently.

We got hooked up with NC works and we were able to create this wonderful training program. I did not know all of the resources that were available through this program. So, reaching out and getting training, developing your own training program. That’s one of the great things about this entire system is that you can tailor it to what you are looking for, whether it be skills soft or technical, or if it’s something like leadership roles that you’re trying to develop some people into becoming, you know, your next managers or you know, vice presidents.

Ann: I received different kinds of training, such as facilitator training and the leadership training. Leadership training is how to work with different employees. Identifying your audiences. The facilitator training involves a lot of the problem solving and how to handle getting to root causes.

Randy: The facilitator training is being able to control a room during meeting. Anytime that you’re in a manufacturing standpoint, you’re working with multiple people, multiple backgrounds, multiple different expertise. You can take all those brains and run an effective meeting that allows you to come with all those ideas and put them into one idea that actually brings home the point.

This training has made a difference in my career path, not so much in where my path went, but the way that I was able to take that path, I just recently got promoted and I’ve been able to really hit the ground running because the things that I learned in these trainings, I was able to implement instantly. And it just made me look like I was already maybe a year or two further along.
