Work Ready Community

GuilfordWorks became a participating member of the ACT Work Ready Communities program early in 2015. ACT is a national program aimed at making our country more competitive by closing the skills gap between what employers need and what candidates currently offer.

While national in scope, the effectiveness lies at the grassroots level. This program is a community-based framework for the workforce and economic development that certifies counties as “work-ready” when established goals are met.

This process is supported by workforce skills data that carefully examines the status of both the current and transitioning workforce along with the emerging workforce — including students and youth. The success of this process requires the cooperation of our local businesses, recognizing the benefit of the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate in their hiring process.

ACT Work Ready Community

We ask employers in Guilford County to support this initiative. Guilford County’s goal is to have over 200 employers recognize or recommend the Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) workplace credential. Please consider showing your support and register at www.workreadycommunities.org/business/form

The WorkKeys System

WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system that measures “real world” skills employers believe are critical to job success. The components of this program include Job Analysis (Profiling), WorkKeys Assessments, and Training. As with all the efforts of GuilfordWorks, the purpose of this WorkKeys system is to match talent with jobs.

Job Analysis (Profiling)

Identify the skill requirements and levels an individual must have to perform successfully. The ACT job analysis method—ACT job profiling— links job tasks with ACT WorkKeys® job skill assessments to pinpoint benchmarks for hiring, recruiting, advancement, and training. WorkKeys Assessments

These assessments are how individuals can earn ACTs National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), a credential that demonstrates a level of workplace employability skills in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information.

Training

After comparing an individual’s skill levels with the requirements for a specific job, businesses then have a clear understanding of the training needed to move individuals toward employability. At this step, our staff can connect your business with the proper educators, whether through the community college system or private training institutions, to find the most effective way forward.

GuilfordWorks staff work in partnership with business, industry, and educational institutions to continuously address program and curriculum needs to ensure our workforce can access the classes and skills training required for our local and regional needs.
