The Value of Employee Training

Business Success Stories

A business that isn’t progressing is moving backward. The need to continually and strategically improve your workforce is one of the stabilizing factors of any business.

In this segment, employees of Cascade Die Casting Group express their appreciation for the training they’ve received thus far. They also explain how the training has enabled them to achieve their professional goals more quickly. They also express their desire to receive more training in the future.

GuilfordWorks offers both on-the-job and small business training grants. On-the-job training (OJT) saves employers time and money while helping individuals gain employment. With Incumbent Worker Training, small businesses can develop their own courses to train staff in a way that meets their specific needs.

We now have five trainers who are very good and have very good structure on how to take someone from first day all the way through until they’re some of the best employees we have.

TRANSCRIPT:

Cassondra: So, Cascade Die Casting is an aluminum die casting company. We specialize in automotive powertrain components. We also have a machining shop. So altogether we have around 200 employees at that facility split between both buildings. For the most part, we are doing heavy manufacturing, but we do some machining.

Our grant really dealt with three issues. So, we had soft skills training, train the trainer, and then we had a problem-solving course as well that we did.

Train the trainer was probably the most valuable to us. We had really no training program that got our new hires up to speed in a quick manner. It was just, you know, do orientation, put them out there and they’ll learn as they go. We now have five trainers who are very good and have very good structure on how to take someone from the first day all the way through until they’re some of the best employees we have.

Aleidi: The training involved me training new employees and make them feel more comfortable and make sure they know how to do the job.

I train new employees. I train them on how to inspect parts and run machines and I schedule the production we need to run for the week.

Ann: My role at Cascade Die Casting is the Quality Document Manager. My role involves preparing documents and training.

The training influenced my day-to-day activities by helping me identify my audience for the training to be able to get them to understand further and also with the problem-solving, being able to facilitate and direct to get to a start in the end.
