GuilfordWorks empowers career seekers by supporting their employment & training needs

GuilfordWorks wants to enable you to find a job and, eventually, a long-term career. Through our NCWorks Career Centers, we bring together a variety of services designed to help you find employment and access education and training.

For over 40 years, GuilfordWorks has been hard at work, helping the folks in this community find work and thrive in their career. During that time, we’ve seen how finding a job and building a sustainable career is the fastest and most viable way to improve your standard of living. That’s why we want to help you find gainful employment and move closer to realizing your dreams.

ADULT CAREER SEEKER SERVICES

Career Seeker Services

NCWorks Career Centers provide job seekers with a variety of no-cost resources including workshops, networking opportunities, job fairs, coaching, and (depending on eligibility) training support to help lead you to sustainable income and meaningful employment. Many of these services are available at the two Career Centers located within our region. These one-stop centers offer integrated services at no cost to job seekers and businesses within our community.

Helping individuals access valuable resources

GuilfordWorks’ NCWorks Career Centers bring together an array of services geared to help individuals find employment and access education and training. Check out the variety of services and see how we might help you.

Career Assessment & Counseling

Our staff will work with you to understand how your personal attributes (values, preferences, motivations, aptitudes, and skills), impact your potential success and satisfaction with different career options and work environments. We will then assist you in determining the most appropriate career path for you.

Resume & Interview Preparation

The staff at our NCWorks Career Centers is ready to assist you with preparing a professional resume. Career Centers hold resume workshops and maintain the necessary software for resume preparation.

Career Development Workshops

We offer a variety of workshops throughout the year to assist you in your career exploration, planning, and preparation. These workshops are held, both on-site, at our NCWorks Career Center locations, and remotely online. Check our calendar of events to see when the next workshop might be available.

Job Referral Assistance

We have aligned ourselves with a vast network of employers who are anxious to hire qualified candidates of all skill levels. These employers Our Career Centers can help you get your foot in the door.

Essential Skills Training & Coaching

These sessions will help you improve your basic Reading, Writing, and Math skills. We also provide soft-skills training for job seekers just entering the workforce.

Certification Scholarships

Don’t put off earning your degree because it seems unaffordable. Our staff can help you determine if you qualify for financial aid, whether a grant, scholarship, student loan, or military option. 

Training & Education Information

Our counselors can help provide information on what training and credentials are typically required for specific career fields. They can direct you to the most affordable training programs in the area and help identify scholarship opportunities to provide financial assistance.

Labor Market & Salary Information

Both job seekers and employers can explore trends in the marketplace and career options for both the local and national labor markets. This data can help you determine your career path.

Career Development Workshops

We offer a variety of workshops throughout the year to assist you in your career exploration, planning, and preparation. These workshops are held, both on-site, at our NCWorks Career Center locations, and remotely online. Check our calendar of events to see when the next workshop might be available.

Career Fairs & Hiring Events

We host on-site and online career fairs and hiring events. Career fairs offer job seekers an opportunity to meet a variety of employers, usually focused in the same industry cluster. Hiring events bring employers to the career center to review applications and interview qualified job seekers on-the-spot for open positions. The calendar of events will tell you when the next career fair is being held.

Community Partner

We work through our NCCares360 initiative to refer jobseekers facing additional barriers and challenges to other available partner services for assistance.

Job Listings

Employers can list jobs directly through guilfordworks.org, the NCWorks Career Centers, or NCWorks Online. We can help you locate the jobs that these employers list with us and help make the connection.

Job Search and Life-Skills Classes

These classes help you learn how to find and keep jobs, including how to manage any personal barriers to employment.

Skills Assessments

Our staff is ready to evaluate your employment abilities, interest, and basic skills. After doing so, they will guide you to the next phase of your job search mission, whether that’s job leads or training opportunities.

Occupational Skills Training and Literacy Skills

We make referrals, to partners and employers throughout our network, for specific training opportunities that lead to employment. We can even refer you to programs that will improve your Reading, Writing, and Math skills.

Computer Lab with Staff Assistance

Utilize the computer lab to complete academic skills upgrades, skills assessments, computer-based tutorials, and connect to NCWorks Online to aide in your personalized job search.

GED and High School Equivalency Preparation

We’ll help you connect to the classes you need to get your High School Diploma or GED.

Financial assistance for short term occupational training

Sometimes training for a new job can be expensive. Job seekers can earn training scholarships for up to two years of tuition costs for eligible training programs in local, high-demand career fields.

Paid, on-the-job training opportunities

When a job seeker wants to enter a field but lacks experience for the position, we work to connect that job seeker with an employer who will hire and train the job seeker as a new employee. The employer receives compensation for the training, and the job seeker keeps the job at the end of the training period.

Network with other career seekers and employers to gain an advantage over other qualified candidates. You might even meet your next employer at one of our hiring or other job-related events.

Special Population Services

We provide specialized resources to individuals who often face unique employment barriers: former offenders, older workers, veterans, and young adults.

Support Services

We offer assistance with childcare, transportation, family problems, or other challenges that could affect your success in finding and keeping a job.

Job Seekers can search for local job listings, create, edit, and post their resume for search by local and statewide employers. There, they can also explore career options, get career tips, and research labor market information.

We’re Open!

The NCWorks Career Centers (Greensboro and High Point) are now open for staff assistance and access to the Computer Resource Center.

Career Centers are also providing remote services via phone, from 9 am – 4 pm, Monday–Friday. Call the individual center for more information.

    Visit Us In-Person at Our NCWorks Career Centers

    Here, we’ve outlined permissable reasons for your in-person visit, as well as what you might expect on the day of your arrival. Please read these instructions carefully, as there are certain requirements for you before we can see you face-to-face.

      On the day of your appointment:

      You should arrive a few minutes early in the event that other customers arrive at the same time, and you have to wait. We want to ensure that you receive the highest level of service possible. Arriving early allows our staff to give you the full allotment of time and their undivided attention.

      Upon arrival at the Center:
      • You will see a sign notifying you that “The wearing of a face mask is required to obtain services.” This policy is in place for the safety and welfare of you, our customers, and staff members.
      • You will also see directional signage on the floor, which reads, “Wait Here.” These markings are spaced six feet apart for social distancing compliance.
      On the day of your appointment:

      You should arrive a few minutes early in the event that other customers arrive at the same time, and you have to wait. We want to ensure that you receive the highest level of service possible. Arriving early allows our staff to give you the full allotment of time and their undivided attention.

      Visiting the Center for Staff Assistance:
      • Check-in with a Greeter at the front desk. The Greeter will confirm your appointment and notify a staff member of your arrival.
      • The talent engagement staff member appointed to assist you will escort you to their desk/cubicle.
      • The talent engagement representative is available to offer advice and provide services targeted to address your specific needs. These services include but are not limited to: Job Search Assistance, Needs Assessment, and Resume Assistance – if applicable.
      • The representative, working with you, will verify your registration into NCWorks and set up the Virtual Recruiter tool for you.
      • If a follow-up appointment is required, the talent engagement representative will set up a subsequent meeting and confirm the details with you.
      • Upon appointment completion, you will be lead to the exit door.
      On the day of your appointment:

      Visiting the Computer Resource Center:
      • Check-in with a Greeter at the front desk. The Greeter will confirm your appointment and notify a staff member of your arrival.
      • A staff member will escort you to an available workstation in the Computer Resource Center.
      • NOTICE: You are not allowed to sit or place items at a station until it has been cleaned and sanitized. Stations are sanitized after each use.
      • Time in the Computer Resource Center is limited to 50 minutes per visit. This limitation allows the maximum number of customers to access the CRC and provides staff enough time to sanitize the workstation before the next visitor arrives.

      Murray comes from a career in the financial arena where he assisted countless numbers of citizens and organizations with their financial needs, which included a combination of various products and services.

      Coming to GuilfordWorks was an opportunity to continue serving the public with a service that would provide a lasting impact for the citizens and their families. By serving in this capacity, Murray says it provides a sense of belonging to a network of professionals who are making a difference in a productive society.

      Adult/Dislocated Worker Program Manager — NCWorks Career Centers, Guilford County

      Kay Carter is the Adult/Dislocated Worker Program Manager for the NCWorks Career Centers of Guilford County, where she provides oversight and leadership for the employment and training initiatives in the context of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) law facilitation. Kay has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and currently pursuing post-graduate studies. Kay is an innovative and highly motivated professional, inspired by opportunities to make a difference and help others meet their goals.

      Karen has been given the opportunity to work in the area of workforce development, for over 20 years.  After serving as Center Manager in Statesville, NC for 11 years, she transitioned to the role of Career Employment Services Manager at the NCWorks Career Center in Guilford County in September of 2019.  In this role, she is grateful for the ability to make a difference in the life of every person she meets.
