Significant Barriers to Employment:

  • Homelessness
  • Recently Separated and unemployed for at least 27 weeks within the last 12 months
  • Criminal background
  • No high school diploma or GED
  • Low Income (must meet requirements)
As part of the American Job Centers (AJCs), the NCWorks Career Centers in Greensboro and High Point are staffed with veteran representatives with specific duties to facilitate the integration of services and collaboration of partners in our system.

The Department of Labor (DOL) is committed to serving transitioning service members, veterans, and their families by providing resources to assist and prepare them to obtain meaningful careers and maximize their employment opportunities. The DOL’s commitment is integral to fulfilling our national obligation to the individuals who have served our country.

JVSG Staff

The Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) program provides dedicated staff to provide individualized career and training-related services to eligible veterans and eligible persons with employment barriers. It also assists employers in fulfilling their workforce needs with job-seeking veterans. JVSG staff facilitate the relationship between JVSG and other programs within the workforce development system.

DVOP Specialists

The Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Program (DVOP) is a U.S. Department of Labor initiative that helps disabled and other eligible veterans, as defined by the Secretary of Labor, find employment. DVOP specialists provide individualized career services and facilitate placements to meet the employment needs of eligible veterans and eligible persons. DVOP specialists must prioritize service to special disabled veterans, other disabled veterans, and other categories of eligible veterans following priorities determined by the Secretary of Labor.

LVER Representatives

Local Veterans’ Employment Representatives (LVER) conduct outreach to employers in the area to increase employment opportunities for veterans, encourage the hiring of disabled veterans, and assist veterans in gaining employment. LVER staff conduct seminars for employers and job search workshops for veterans and facilitate priority of service furnished to veterans by all staff.
