When Cassandra began her journey with NCWorks Adult Services, she was working part-time as a Field Technician, and she hadn’t had sustainable employment since being laid off from Lab Corp in 2018. After enrolling, her goals were to obtain a medical billing and coding certificate and find a career as a Health Services Technician. Even with her extensive experience in healthcare billing, without recent related education, she couldn’t find a job that worked for her. Her NCWorks career advisor connected her to the Medical Billing and Coding online program at NC A&T, where she received funding assistance and received her certification, graduating in July 2021.

After completing her program, her career advisor helped her finalize her résumé and tailored her professional summary for her employment goals. Cassandra was offered a position at Cone Health, and through funding assistance, she was able to pay for gas until she received her first pay stub.
Cassandra currently works as a full-time Patient Services Representative at Cone Health, making $16.25 an hour. She has been learning more about opportunities in the medical and billing department, which she plans to transfer into once she is eligible.
