David began his journey with NextGen in February 2021. His primary goal was to gain enough work experience to become a self-sufficient young adult.
Putting in the Hard Work
David had to overcome low self-esteem as well as a lack of work experience and industry knowledge to feel successful in his career goals. While in the program, he received comprehensive guidance and counseling, pre-employment training/work maturity, education on labor market information, on-the-job training, and supportive services.
After working through the program with his youth advocate to achieve his career goals, he began an internship with the City of Greensboro, as an Equipment Services Technician, in August 2021. In February 2022, David was brought on as a full-time employee,
Continuing the Journey
David’s current employer praised him for being hardworking, diligent, and reliable. His managers have enjoyed working with him so much that they created a permanent position just for David. And, the City’s department has expressed interest in continuing to work with NextGen to continue the growth of the internship process.
